The Studio

Meet Leticia Spencer

Leticia Spencer's hands sculpting a jewelled mask at her studio bench

Ascending Crafts is one artist, one bench and one pair of hands. Leticia sculpts every mask and every zodiac hard-case herself, from the first press of clay to the last crystal set by tweezer.

It began with a single commissioned mask for a midnight opera and grew into a practice devoted to wearable sculpture. The zodiac gives the work its forms — a crab's shell, a ram's horn, a lion's mane — and the materials give it weight: clay and plaster shaped by hand, an epoxy resin shell for strength, then gems, rhinestones, filigree and genuine gold leaf for the final look.

Nothing is outsourced. Nothing is mass-produced. Most pieces take about two weeks of studio time, and no two ever come out the same. If you'd like something built around your own sign, your own colours or your own event, the studio takes commissions directly.
